Intel just wowed everyone with an unexpected announcement of the Intel Core X-series Desktop Processors at Computex. These beauties are claimed to be the most powerful and scalable. Just a coincidence that its similar to the theme of the Xbox One X. As we know, this series of processors are meant to be a competitor to AMD’s Ryzen processors. The processors were announced this month and in addition to the new “X” series, we also have a new i9 processor.
We can already assume that the other Intel Cores in this lineup are just “boosted” versions of themselves. The Kaby lake just released a couple months ago and now Intel is cooking something new. For In-Depth Specifications of the other processors look below.
Upgraded Standard Processors
The Intel Core i5-7640X has a base clock of 4.0(GHz) which is a step up from previous models, pretty reasonable. The i5 still has the standard 4 cores and 4 threads with Two channels of DDR4 Memory support. A very interesting thing about this lineup is the Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0. Only the i7-7820X and the i9-7900X has the 4.5 frequency. The 3.0 is an interesting feature for its major scaling of the processor.
The price of these processors aren’t known yet, but it seems as if the processors varying degree of models might allow them to be significantly affordable. There is a flux of higher scale i7’s to lower scale and that says something. Now, let us get into the big reveal, the i9 processor.
Fresh Intel Core I9
The Intel core i9 is the new release in the X-series and most people would like to know more about this specimen. As of now, we know that the most expensive processor ($1,999) will have 18 cores and 36 threads, the i9-7980XE. As stated on the chart and Intel’s official website, we don’t know anything else but that. It is an “announced coming soon” product nothing else to it. So we can get more knowledge and insight on the i9 series, we will look at the cheapest one ($999).
The i9-7900k has the lowest base clock out of the other series which is quite interesting. The low base clock is probably derived from the fact that this processor is still new and experimental. This processor is just announced not released. The i9 has 10 cores and 20 threads which is quite impressive especially when we know that the i9-7980XE has 18 cores.
One of the biggest things to come with these new releases is unity. All of these processors can fit on the same motherboard. No buying whole new motherboards to switch, its the exact same and you can pluck it out and put a new one in. That new luxury would presumably come at a cost. Highly rated and expensive processors that can all fit on one motherboard would be expensive.
Don’t expect it to be low; if the cost is low then pat yourself on the back, we got a deal. The socket for it by the way is a R4, a 2,066-pin LGA socket. When you look on newegg for those good processors you can now get the new motherboard too.
In conclusion, these processors are high-end. The cheapest one you could get for the average consumer is the i5 and if you want to get a little fancy, buy an i7. If you want that clean-cut, prestige gaming, these are the products for you, but I won’t recommend that. On paper, there is a lot to say good about this product. Through my opinion and many others, this product is still experimental and quite rushed. There are even rumors of an even better CPU coming August for the main motherboards people use.
The Intel Core X-series is a just a way to combat against AMD’s new good processor. It doesn’t seem to have the quality and time other Intel products have. Buy at your own risk, but know that these motherboards won’t likely be supported at a later date nor be any good. I hate to see Intel stoop to trying to combat against a competitor when their products have always been good.
The frantic hurry to add more cores and threads made other motherboard companies hurry in making a motherboard. All of this rushing and hurrying makes a fairly rushed and mediocre product. Research before buying, especially for computer parts. Enough of my biased opinion, If you would like this product and you have the money, go and get it have a nice time. Live strong and game hard, this is Interest and I’m out.
