Yes, I know i’m a little late to the party, but I just got my grubby hands on Prey. I’ve only played the first 5 hours of it and I have to say, this game is really good. Don’t worry this isn’t going to be some little secret promotion thing, this is just my general opinion.
If you already spoiled yourself by watching a bunch of youtube videos of the gameplay because you can’t buy it yourself, you may already know this. For those who haven’t here’s a little bit of it that you “probably” won’t freak out about. Keeping spoilage to a minimum.
Prey is a story of a guy named Morgan Yu who is in space while these extraterrestrial creatures come on board of the ship. Your job is to fight them off, stop them. A little extra, the main obstacle stopping you from doing that is your brother Alex Yu who wants to harmonize instead of destroy.
Prey takes the major role of how Until Dawn the game worked, The Butterfly Effect. It just isn’t shoved in your face by slowing down the camera and allowing you a choice. Every choice you make causes you to go to another route in time.
If you choose to kill a certain person or do a certain action you will go in that direction. The game makes it clear to you through operators. In the game you can side with aliens or side with “yourself”. That was a bit too in depth, but that is just one section of the game.
Prey, if you can describe it in several words, is a space-oriented survival horror game. When I first started playing the game, it reminded me immediately of a mesh of Half-Life series, Dead Space, and Fallout. Weird combination, but you will see when you play it.
On Thursday, June 8th, I will make a post on tips for this game before you play so stay tuned!
This game honestly, is super difficult depending on your choices. The very first time I played, I had no health and was stuck in a rock and a hard place. When I was stuck I searched on the internet (like anyone would do) for tips. What showed up mind boggled me. I had to literally restart my game and lose 2 hours of gameplay because of it.
There are many things you have to even do before commencing the first mission. Prey doesn’t really tell you these things, but you really need to explore. You can’t just bust in there with your measly weapons.
When you first get into the lobby of Talos 1, you need to go around and search for everything. Every nook and cranny you can find in the place. I you don’t you’ll be sh*t out of luck. Granted, there are certain play styles you can go through, but what is the fun in that when you can get every weapon you need before the very first big mission even starts.
On Thursday, I will give you some really helpful tips for the game so you won’t keep dying so easily and can progress through the game without being scared. When you have little health and no good weapons you will be scared.
